A Class III Biosafety Cabinet (also known as a Type III BSC) is the highest level of containment used in laboratories and healthcare settings where highly dangerous biological agents are handled. These cabinets are designed to provide a physically and chemically sterile environment for working with highly infectious agents that pose a significant risk to both the personnel working with the samples and the external environment. Class III Biosafety Cabinets are typically used in laboratories that handle biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) pathogens — the most dangerous pathogens known to science, including the Ebola virus, Lassa fever virus, and other highly infectious diseases that have no vaccines or effective treatments.
